Considered by many to be easier to climb than any other mountain over 7,000 meters in the world, Lenin Peak straddles Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Nonetheless, the climb takes place almost solely on the Kyrgyz side of the border. Despite its permanently snow-covered summit and its impressive height, Lenin Peak presents no great (or even significant) technical challenges to climbers, except of course for the altitude and the changeable weather conditions. Nevertheless, it is far from accurate to suggest that reaching the summit is either easy or free from danger. As a reminder, an avalanche killed 43 climbers during the 1990s. For my part, I did not reach the summit of Lenin Peak; nonetheless, I got close enough to discover an absolutely stunning place, even by the standards of a region that is blessed with unparalleled beauty. It's an absolutely vital, unmissable part of any voyage of discovery in Kyrgyzstan.
