To blend nature and culture, the islands of Stockholm arethe ideal destination for a long weekend. I’ve had the opportunity to go there several times, because I have friends and family there. On each visit, I like discovering new places. The city is very nice, especially during the spring and summer. Of course, Stadsholmen is in the centre of the city, with the old town ( Gamla Stan ), a must-see on your first visit. I visited the Royal Palace and also a little museum dedicated to the Nobel Prize. One of my favourite islands is Djurgården to the east, where there's a huge park, the city's true lifeblood of greenery, where Stockholmers come to stroll, picnic, bike and kayak. It's also called the "Island of Museums", because the Vasa Maritime Museum is there with its impressive 17th century warship, as well as the small ABBA Museum! During my last weekend there, I discovered the Millesgården Museum on the island of Lidingö, to the northwest. It was an amazing visit, thanks to an open air sculpture exhibit in the gardens overlooking the sea...Something not to be missed! Finally, the island of Södermalm. "Söder", to those in the know, is the hippest island with bars, restaurants, art galleries, thrift stores and other vintage shops. It's very trendy, but I like it a lot!
