During my <a href="/sweden/">trip to Sweden</a>, I visited a couple of friends who own a guest house and a raid (a sort of endurance trip) agency in Swedish Lapland, in a village called Flarken. The simplest way to get there is to take an SAS flight from Stockholm to Skellefteå, a small town where my friend also go to stock up on equipment for their agency.
In March the weather was already very nice so the plane didn't land on frozen runways, as it does in winter. The sunshine didn't stop me enjoying all the unmissable activities in Lapland: snowshoeing, ice skating, snow mobiling, ice fishing, and, of course, the famous dog sled driving.
We stayed in a traditional Swedish house, in the middle of the forest. During one of the raids we stayed in small chalets in the middle of Swedish Lapland. Lots of tourists do these sorts of trips at Kiruna. I've never been there, but I can really recommend the region of Skellefteå (not the town itself, I grant you), where there are no tourists and the nature is fabulous.
