Tafi Del Valle is a pretty mountain village at an altitude of 2,000 m and only 50 km from <a href="/argentina/">San Miguel de Tucuman</a>, the capital of the province of the same name. Its temperate climate and large green prairies are good for raising cows and sheep for milking. The region's specialty is, cheese. This pretty village is a favourite holiday spot of the inhabitants of San Miguel de Tuchman who go to spend the weekend by the lake or on Rio Sosa. Horse riding or cycling, fishing, water sports and treks are just some of the numerous activities available in the valley. 15 km from the village are the menhirs of El Mollar where there are some attractive walking trails. Most of the 4,000 people of Tafi Del Valle are Diaguitas and make a living from agriculture and crafts. If you stay in this typical village you are likely to spend time with the locals and learn more about the region's myths and legends. You should ask them to tell you about the dwarves who live in the hills...

I have fantastic memories of the very pretty Tafi del Valle . I have to say, after some weeks spent in terrific, but desert scenery, an adventure in green countryside was more than welcome.
The road that leads there is still engraved in my memory: the passage through a pass at an altitude of close to 10 000 ft., which marks the frontier between a bare landscape punctuated with cacti and one of luxuriant vegetation that is a pure breath of fresh air. What bliss! I spent a few days there, mostly to walk in the mountains, but also to get to the ruins of Quilmes (to be recommended by the way).
The town is reminiscent of a Swiss village which is not really disorientating, but have no fear, you stand a good chance of crossing condors and gauchos on your outings around here! 
In conclusion, I would not say that Tafi is a must-see on <a href="/argentina/"> your trip to Argentina, </a> but if you happen to be passing through the region for one reason or another, why not make a stop here?
