I liked the relaxing and inviting atmosphere of Nuremberg. This friendly atmosphere is expressed during the city's big festivals, especially during the Christmas market on the Hauptmarkt (Market Square), one of the most beautiful markets to visit during a trip to Germany.
During the Second World War, the old town, a former gathering place of the National Socialist Party, was heavily destroyed. Completely rebuilt, Nuremberg is home to some historically significant monuments. I recommend you see the St. Lawrence church for its works of art, including the Angelic Salutation : a beautiful wood sculpture from the 16th century.
Take the time to wander around the Market Square, and admire the the 14th century fountain with its 40 statues. If you enjoy beautiful panoramas, go and see the city's fortifications: from atop its 4 imposing towers, the view of Nuremberg is amazing!
History lovers should go to the German National Museum ("Germanisches Nationalmuseum") for its painting and sculpture collections, and they'll also enjoy visiting the former site of the Nazi Party Rally Grounds for its valuable documentation centre and the International Military Tribunal Memorial to discover the famous Courtroom 600 from the Nuremberg Trials and the very didactic permanent exhibit.
