Berlin is a city which I have always enjoyedvisiting, because of its diversity and its heritage. Among the unmissable places to visit are the Reichstag, with its impressive glass dome which you can pay a visit to and the Brandenburg Gate. A symbol of the cold war division of Germany which now celebrates the reunification of the country, the Brandenburg Gate is now a friendly place with its regular festivals, concerts and new year celebrations.
Take some time out to visit Pariser Platz. Here, you can admire the luxury Adlon Kempinski hotel, DZ Bank with its glass atrium and the Academy of Arts, one of Berlin's oldest cultural institutions. The Holocaust Memorial stands near the Brandenburg Gate, and the attached information centre provides a wealth of information about the Nazi regime and the extermination of European Jews. Your trip will not be complete without a visit to the German Historical Museum, which houses a collection covering from the Middle Ages to 1994. After that, don't forget to stop at Potsdamer Platz, Checkpoint Charlie and at the Berlin Wall Museum.
If you like architecture, I thoroughly recommend a visit to the beautiful Gendarmenmarkt, one of the city's most beautiful squares, and the Forum Fridericianum, the urbanist legacy of Frederick the Great. Berlin's Museum Island is also worth a mention, listed as UNESCO World Heritage, as is the Kulturforum with its splendid gallery.
