What to see in one week

Any one week itinerary in Cuba should start with a trip to the nation’s capital, Havana. Here you can get a sense of the Cuban way of life, whilst enjoying local food and drink and meeting some locals. See the architecture, classic cars and monuments that Havana is well known for. To get to see a more historical side to Cuba, visit Trinidad, where you can see colonial architecture as well as the plantations that are dotted all over this area. Cienfuegos is a beautiful example of a coastal city and should definitely make it on to your list of places to visit during your 7 day Cuba itinerary. The famous revolutionary, Che Guevara’s mausoleum can be found in Santa Clara, along with the beautiful Parque Vidal. Finally, to see Cuban nature at its finest, visit the San Luis Valley to see wildlife and natural attractions. 

What to do in one week

In Havana, make the most of the bustling city life and enjoy a live salsa performance, or even take a class and see if you have what it takes to master this Latin classic. If dancing isn’t your thing, why not take a cooking class? Take a tour around the city in a classic car and see the sights in a day whilst enjoying a relaxing and hassle free ride. For more relaxation, visit Varadero where the white beaches and golf courses offer the perfect chance to take a break from everyday stresses. In Santiago de Cuba, you can enjoy an Afro-Cuban festival and take in the cultural fusion that has made this place a hub for music, food and art. For a chance to challenge yourself, why not go hiking in the nature reserve Topes de Collantes? Animal lovers won’t be disappointed either, with so many opportunities to observe and get up close to Cuba’s amazing wildlife. At Cayo Coco you can enjoy white sand beaches as well as world class snorkelling and the native flamingoes. On the island of Cayo Santa María you can visit one of the country’s top wildlife sanctuaries and learn all about each species. On Cayo Largo de Sur, you can get to know one animal in particular; the sea turtle. You can help to set up conservation efforts, to care for the animals themselves and to see them in their natural habitat.  

Best time to travel to Cuba for a week

As a tropical country, Cuba is generally warm throughout the entire year. Between June and November hurricanes become more frequent, with storms ranging from very light to fairly severe. The peak seasons are usually between December and March and then between June and August, where you can expect to encounter more tourists and to have to book in advance to avoid losing out on your chosen accommodation and activities. Carnival parties generally happen in July and August, making this a great time to visit, with street parties and nationwide celebrations. Whenever you decide is the best time to visit Cuba for your 7 day itinerary, you’re sure to have the time of your life.
