Vukovar: history and remembrance
Today an attractive Slavonian city lying close to the Croatia-Serbia border on the river Danube, Vukovar is unfortunately associated with the war that resulted in Croatia separating from Yugoslavia. The city is slowly recovering from the effects of the 1991 siege, which left its mark on both its people and its walls and buildings. Visiting it today is a particularly moving experience.
