Samara, a haven of tranquility

The beauty and friendliness of Samara and its beach will surprise you. Like a lot of visitors, you will probably want to stay longer in this peaceful spot.

A tranquil way of life

The little town of Samara is famous for being one of the most tranquil on the peninsula. If you are looking for a romantic destination or a place to stay with children, this is it. Obviously there aren't just Costa Ricans in this town, a lot of travellers have fallen in love with it and moved there, but it is still very welcoming and peaceful. Some of the expats have become friendly restaurant or youth hostel owners, or talented craftsmen, and will be pleased to chat with you. Take a stroll down the little streets of the town, take the time to get to know the inhabitants, explore the markets and eat fresh fish. Samara is a very pleasant place to put on your Costa Rican itinerary.

Something for everyone

Once you've had a laze on the fantastic beach there are lots of other activities in the town. If you love the ocean floor then the local coral reef is breathtaking and has some impressive sea life. You can go off exploring with just a snorkel but if you want something more exciting then there is also a scuba diving club. If you want to recharge your batteries in ideal surroundings then you can practice yoga or relax in a spa. If you are into walking or riding then there are several treks that will let you explore the sumptuous surrounding countryside and paradisiacal beaches. There are also more energetic activities like mountain biking, zip lining and guided fishing trips. And, of course, you could also sign up to learn Spanish in one of the local institutes. You'll see, Samara may be a little town, but you won't get bored there.

A magical beach

You'll fall in love with Smara's wonderful beach! The white sand edged with coconut palms, clear blue water, a coral reef and pretty creeks carved into the land...But be careful, the sun can be surprisingly strong, and it's better to go there early in the morning or at the end of the afternoon, so you don't risk sun burn or turning as red as a lobster! And even better, you probably won't see as many other people at those times so you'll be better able to appreciate its tranquility. This beach is ideal for those who don't like enormous waves because the coral reef acts as a barrier and you can swim peacefully, or even take your first steps in learning to surf.

I suggest you stay in Samara for several days during your trip to Costa Rica, so you can make the most of its calm, warm welcome and gentle way of life - the Costa Rican "Pura Vida".
