Amarapura is a former capital of Burma and lies at the center of the country, in the Mandalay region. It is an essential stop when visiting Burma.
My suggestion
You must go and stand on the U Bein Bridge at sunset!
Located approximately 11 km to the south of Mandalay, Amarapura, or "city of immortality", the country's last but one royal capital, is an essential place to see when you visit Myanmar.
My suggestion
You can easily get there by bicycle. It will take you 45 minutes to pedal from Mandalay, and you will have plenty of time to observe the U Bein Bridge as it emerges from the early morning mist.

For those traveling under their own means, I advise organizing a two-day visit to the Amarapura site combined with a visit to the hill of Sagaing and Inwa, departing from Mandalay.
