In the Balkan peninsula in southern Europe, Albania borders the Adriatic sea over the whole of its eastern coast and the north east of the Ionian sea. The country shares its borders with Montenegro, Macedonia, Greece and Kosovo. The Italian coasts are 70 km from the Albanian coasts, level with Lecce and Brindisi. Its gentle coastal climate, wild scenery and cultural wealth long-time unexplored, have contributed immeasurably to the increase in Albania’s popularity in recent years. In summer, its coasts are very popular but in spring and autumn all the conditions combine for a successful holiday in Albania. Endowed with superb beaches, Albania is also a mountainous country: not far off three quarters of its land is claimed by them. Forests, high plateaux, lakes and plains also delight trekkers. Its “eagle country” adds to the charm of Lake Ohrid, with its native Koran fish and reputation as one of the oldest lakes in the world. This untamed nature harbours a particularly diverse flora and fauna, adding to the beauty of the panorama.
